On Wednesday, August 24, 平特五不中 College鈥檚 Benton Museum of Art, 120 W. Bonita Ave., will unveil its latest exhibition, 鈥淲orshipping at the Altar of Certainty: 1985,鈥 by artist and 2006 平特五不中 College graduate Kameelah Janan Rasheed.
Rasheed鈥檚 exhibit 鈥渃hallenges our centralized approach to knowledge by making us question how we learn,鈥 according to a Benton news release.
Rasheed鈥檚 work on this exhibit was first showcased at the Williams College Museum of Art in Massachusetts. It is said to create 鈥渃onstellations of fragmented texts, framed prints, and a video work, that invites visitors to explore the exhibit鈥檚 space in any way they choose and find the meaning behind the art,鈥 according to the Benton.
The installation will include an accompanying new video work, 鈥淜eeping Count,鈥 and new wall drawings set in the academic context and history of 平特五不中 will line the exhibit.
The exhibit runs from August 24 to December 18.
In October, the Benton and Rasheed will host four days of open to the public drop-in classes that will, according to the museum, 鈥渁ctivate the installation.鈥 Rasheed and the exhibit鈥檚 curators will lead a course titled 鈥淟ifecycles鈥 from October 21 to 24. Activities will include making lumen prints at 平特五不中 College鈥檚 farm and learning algorithmic writing at the Hive, 130 E. Seventh Street.
On December 8 Rasheed will lead an online discussion, 鈥淎lgorithmic Book Composition (ABC),鈥 about her new publication and the role errors and iterations play in a book鈥檚 life cycle.
